From student to teacher

I went to Old School Montessori for the majority of my 15 years of being in school. I started at OSM when I was 3 years old and left after I finished the 6th grade. Going to OSM was such a huge part of my life that I could never forget it. I have so many fantastic memories of my nine years at OSM. I often look back at those days now that I have started my senior year at Grayslake Central High School. Also I have started working as a Program Plus teacher for the 2010-2011 school year. Having gone to OSM I find it easier to understand how things work and how to best make sure the kids have fun. I was a Program Plus student my self, staying to 6:00 most nights, and I really liked it. I got to play with my friends. I really enjoy getting to see all the teachers that I have missed for the past 6 years and I love being surrounded by little reminders of my childhood. I look at a shelf in a Primary room and remember doing most of the materials. That is one of the great things about OSM, they have really found a great way to teach children so they will never forget what they learn. To this day, I use the skills that I learned at OSM in most everything I do. I am one of the few people I know who can still write every cursive letter, who knows what a biome is, who knows how to properly walk heal-to-toe, who knows that you get a rug out when you are working on the floor and, how to then nicely roll the rug up when you are done. OSM and the Montessori curriculum really prepare you for life after OSM and teach you important life skills. I have a lot of places I want to go, and OSM, and all it has taught me, will really come in handy as I try to find my way in this world.
